Those first weeks and months after giving birth is the time that a woman gives of herself in ways that she never did before or knew she could.  In this painting, we see the new mom with her maternity girdle to help reform that bubbling tummy.  Her newly enlarged breasts unencumbered by a bra, are ready for the next feeding.  BUT she is pampering herself for the moment with a salad on a porcelain plate!!
